Types of Benefits Obtainable through a Workers' Comp Claim
When an employee suffers a workers' comp accident, they are entitled to file a workers' comp claim as long as they are covered by their employer's insurance. When they do so, there are a number of different types of benefits that they could be entitled to receive depending on the nature of their work-related injury. The most common form of compensation is a monthly payment, which can be provided for a number of different injuries and disabilities.
The most common use for workers' compensation is to cover medical treatment. Your employer could cover you through an Organization for Managed Care (MCO) or a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). If your employer does not offer such coverage, you can select a physician or chiropractor from Nevada's Panel of Treating Physicians and Chiropractors, instead. Monthly payments can also be made for disability resulting from a workplace accident, which must be determined by a licensed physician. Temporary Total Disability (TTD), Temporary Partial Disability (TPD), and Permanent Total Disability (PTD) all come in the form of monthly payments.
Unlike the types of disability listed above, there is also Permanent Partial Disability (PPD). In these cases, the worker can receive a PPD award in the form of a settlement. If the PPD rating is less than 25% as determined by a doctor, the payment must be in the form of a lump sum. If it is more than 25%, the injured worker can request to have the award paid in installments, or receive the 25% as a lump sum and have the remainder paid in installments.
